Bengaluru, Oct 5 (SocialNews.XYZ) Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje on Monday alleged that Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and the Congress government were trying to protect the votes of people who had been illegally included in the electoral rolls.
Speaking to the media in Bengaluru, Karandlaje said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would fight against such attempts and urged the Election Commission to ensure that the entire process was carried out strictly in accordance with the law.
“The Chief Minister brought his entire Cabinet and staged a protest before the Election Commission. They did not want those illegally included in the electoral rolls to be removed. In particular, the Chief Minister and the government were trying to retain the votes of lakhs of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the electoral rolls,” she alleged.
She said the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was being conducted to remove the names of people who had been illegally included over the past several years.
The names of deceased persons and those whose names appeared in more than one place were also being removed, she said.
“Now the Chief Minister is worried that the votes of Bangladeshis may be lost. That is why the Congress government and its workers are trying to retain illegal voters in the electoral rolls,” she alleged.
Karandlaje said illegal voters would be identified if the SIR process was conducted properly and their documents verified.
“If their documents are examined, it will be known whether they have voted illegally. The government is trying to hide this,” she alleged.
She said the Election Commission was conducting the SIR across the country in accordance with the law.
Notices had been issued to around 45 lakh voters whose documents were found to be deficient, she said.
“If they are genuine voters, let them submit their documents. Nobody can take away their right to vote. But illegal voters should not remain in the electoral rolls,” Karandlaje said.
On Form 7 objections, she said the law allowed anyone to submit Form 7, including multiple forms.
However, she stressed that it was the responsibility of election officials to examine and verify the objections.
“Officials who are responsible for examining the objections must conduct proper verification,” she said.
Karandlaje also questioned the registration of FIRs based on complaints by Congress workers in connection with the SIR process.
“How many complaints have been filed by officials during the SIR process should be made public. How is it right to register FIRs based on complaints by Congress workers? Private complaints should not be accepted. Everything should be conducted fairly,” she said, urging the Election Commission to ensure a lawful and impartial process.
